Classical Painter

ABOUT CALYPSO
Calypso is a classical painter living and working in north London. She trained at the Edinburgh Atelier of Fine Art, learning historical methods of drawing and painting that have been passed down from teacher to student since the 18th century.
Her paintings are highly technical, celebrating the fine detail and rich variety of colours and textures that bring objects alive. Painting primarily from life, she works with the inevitable movement of her subjects, allowing a dynamism to enter her work; a sense of energy that breathes life into her paintings.
From the emergence of an autoimmune disease at the age of seventeen, health has been an ongoing challenge throughout Calypso’s life. Despite periods of difficulty, her joy and zest for life continue to shine through. Her love of people, nature and animals is evident in her work, as she strives to present the world as it truly is; dark, mysterious, a little bit scary, and yet full of colour, light and beauty in abundance.
