ABOUT CALYPSO
Calypso is a classical painter and draughtswoman living and working in Rutland. Her primary fascination is with people; their anatomy, psychology and physiology. Having struggled with an autoimmune disease, Calypso has become obsessed with the workings of the human form. What makes people tick, what gives them energy, slows them down, motivates them and gives them the will to prosper in the face of suffering. These questions arise while she draws figures and portraits, and she hopes to discover the vital force in her subjects, and translate it onto canvas.
While figures and portraits are Calypso's favourite subjects, she produces many still life paintings. Animated elements seem to creep into her compositions, with busts, skulls and clothing invoking the presence of human and animal life. Never still; ever renewing.
