Introduction to classical oil painting
Learn to paint a traditional still life in this two-day oil painting workshop led by local classical painter Calypso Rubinstein Keightley.
9th - 10th November in Ridlington Village Hall
WHAT TO EXPECT
DAY ONE: We will begin with a morning lecture on materials and techniques. We’ll look at different oil paints, brushes and mediums and how to use them. We’ll also look at a few examples of grisaille underpainting and techniques used by the old masters.
In the afternoon you will take your place at an easel in front of an already set-up still life. The still lives will be simple and accessible to beginners, but still captivating and fun to paint. You will have the whole afternoon to create an underpainting of your still life.
DAY TWO: The entire day will be dedicated to painting your still life in full colour. I will be moving through the room chatting to each of you individually as you paint, giving you detailed feedback and answering your questions.
How much experience is required? NONE. All levels are welcome from complete beginner to practicing artist. Perhaps you want to try oil painting for the first time, or perhaps you’re an established artist looking to experiment with a different style and medium. All welcome!
All materials (and still lives) will be provided, but you’re welcome to bring your own materials too if you’d like to.
A vegan, gluten free lunch as well as tea, coffee and biscuits will be included!
